SUMMARY OF 2003 LEAGUE STRUCTURE:
PRE-Season Drop-in Pick-Up format for forming teams for the regular season
SUMMARY OF 2004 LEAGUE STRUCTURE:
Play Regulations:
The rules of play are similar to baseball; however, there is no base running. Please see the full official rules posted on the custom page of this website.
Player Eligibility:
Every participant (drop-in or team players) must sign the liability waiver and conduct code.
Players are to wear shoes at all times, and fielders are to play with bare hands.
Each player must be officially dropped by one team before another team may pick up that player.
Team Rosters:
A roster of 2 to 5 players is due at the team registration deadline. Roster must include each player's full name and some kind of contact information (phone, e-mail, or address).
"Pick up" players may not be used in official games, until they are added to a team roster with additional payment.
When an individual adds on to the roster of a team, an extra fractional fee must be paid beyond the original team cost (because drop-in fees will drop).
Teams can consist of 2 or 3 players on the field, and up to 5 players in the batting line-up and on the original roster, and then teams can add up to 2 more roster players from drop-in individuals, with an additional fee paid by the added player. Players can be dropped from a team to make room for new added players if the team has reached its 7-player roster maximum.
Schedules:
Regular season (set # of games guaranteed) + Playoffs structure (top 4 teams make playoffs & compete for prizes in a single-elimination format)
(Teams are seeded according to their regular season record, and the #1 seed team plays the #4 seed team in the first round of the playoffs, while the #2 seed team plays the #3 seed team in the first round. The 2 winning teams in the first round then square off in the final round, with the winning team claiming the team prize. The 2 losing teams can play a consolation game on another open field to determine third place.)
If a team does not field the required minimum of two (2) players to begin by 10 minutes after scheduled game time, then a forfeit shall be declared. In addition to tardiness or non-appearance, a forfeit will be declared for flagrant violations of league rules and regulations. After a forfeit is declared, a practice game may be played for the remainder of the scheduled playing time. No protests will be accepted, so staff will declare a double forfeit if teams can not resolve a conflict.
Games:
1 game = 6 innings or the 1 hour time limit. Tie games will be continued provided time permits.
Once a new inning begins, time shall be allowed to complete the inning and only that inning.
Each team must write up an official line-up card at the start of each game, and show that card at the scheduled game time. The line-up card must have each player's full name in the batting order.
The home team is determined by a coin toss during the regular season. However, during playoffs, the home team is always the higher seeded team.
Final League Standings:
League winners will be the team that completes the schedule with the best win-loss-tie record (1 point win, 1/2 point tie, 0 point loss). If teams are tied with the identical point total after completing the league schedule, the team awarded higher final league standing will be the team:
A. with the best record against each other (if this does not determine a winner, those teams tied move to step b). One team must be able to eliminate all other teams tied by beating each tied team to be awarded 1st place. B. with the highest difference between runs allowed and runs scored against teams tied; or C. with the highest difference between runs allowed and runs scored against the league; or D. by draw. * Any team with a "tarnished" record will automatically lose the tie breaker. A tarnished record is a team that has a forfeit on their record.
Field Logistics:
1 field (9-10 PM) = 1 drop-in practice or pick-up game in the first hour... This one drop-in field for the first hour is open to team members for free, and any drop-in players for a small fee
3 fields (10-11 PM) = up to 3 organized team games per hour (if the league has 6 teams; otherwise, the extra field will be used for continued pick-up play by drop-in players.)
Team Logistics:
4 teams = 6 different scheduled game possibilities
6 teams = 15 different scheduled game possibilities
8 teams = 28 game possibilities + need for another weeknight, such as Thursday, for wiffleball
2 separate nights per week with 3 game fields per night would = 12 teams accommodated
Team Registration and Fees:
Register one week in advance for each season by submitting the waiver/roster sheet plus the fee.
The waiver/roster sheet includes the full name and some contact info of each player, plus the signature of each player, indicating agreement to the release of liability.
The fee will vary according to length of season (set # of games), which will vary according to league size (registered # of teams). Team players still save money over individual drop-in players!
